April 24, 2021 | ||
10:00 am | to | 4:00 pm |
The ARRL Ohio Section ARES is holding NVIS Day on Saturday, 24 April 2021 10Am-4PM
The purpose of NVIS day is to construct and try various antenna ideas, all working as NVIS (Near Vertical Incident Skywave) antennas. These antennas are low to the ground and provide coverage generally within a 400 mile radius- extremely important for regional HF communications in an emergency.

PSE: GOBA 2021 CANCELED; ALTERNATIVE TOUR ANNOUNCED
March 2nd, 2021
Per the GOBA Website:
GOBA 2021 CANCELED; ALTERNATIVE TOUR ANNOUNCED
This will be another difficult year for major bicycling tours, and we are sad to announce that GOBA 2021 has been canceled because of the pandemic. The chances of safely holding a weeklong ride for 1,200 to 1,500 cyclists in 3 1/2 months from now have become increasingly slim, and health department restrictions on mass gatherings and temporary camping are unlikely to allow it. GOBA just wouldn’t be the big, fun biking festival that tens of thousands of cyclists have come to love and expect since 1989.
But Outdoor Pursuits recognizes that many cyclists are eager to ride on a tour this summer if they can do so safely. Therefore we have been working with health officials and the GOBA 2021 communities to create a smaller, simpler alternative event that would pass muster even under current COVID-19 rules.
The result is the new, one-time Western Ohio Bicycle Adventure (WOBA), which will have a limit of 500 participants and be held on the same days (June 19-26) and in the same towns (Sidney, Wapakoneta, Versailles and Troy) as GOBA would have been.
The tour will use a hub-and-spoke route format, with cyclists riding 50-mile loops on seven days, and the option for 100 miles on one of the days. Participants will have their vehicles throughout the event and drive from overnight town to overnight town instead of bike.
The camps will have showers, toilets, tent and towel service, RV parking, a bike mechanic and limited food sales, but they will lack some of the other amenities of a GOBA camp. The vehicles will make it easy for participants to access lodging, food, entertainment, services and shopping in the communities. Increased sanitizing, facial-covering and social distancing will be practiced in the camps, food stops and other WOBA venues.
More details on amateur radio support as the event gets closer.
